The Teacher

What does being taught under a good teacher feel like? Who is your teacher, mentor or coach?

Matthew 5:2 (NLT): "and he began to teach them".

Who is a teacher? What's your perspective about it. Today I would want us to be able to redefine in our hearts who a teacher is.

To teach is to impart knowledge, to instruct a person on how to do something, to cause someone to understand something by example or experience, to counsel, to mentor, to coach, to nurture, to lead, to guide, to build structure and finally to lay a foundation.

Everyone has done one of these things before, for a friend, family or colleague, knowingly or unknowingly.

What is special about Jesus the teacher.

One, He knows your questions before you speak or ask, if you'll notice from Matthew 5:1-2, the people who gathered around Him had not yet spoken but He knew what to teach, He knew their needs.

Second, He has a solution to your problem or dilemma.

Third, He takes you through a syllabus, a structure, a process, a course, a way and a path.

To be a good teacher, you first give a solid foundation before you start building on top. This also begins by knowing the mind of your student and the level at which they are at.

Clarity of mind, clear perspective is needed, that's why He is on the mount, a call to a higher learning.

To study with Christ, He would lead you with the basics and as you mature He increases the weight and responsibilities, some people call it stretching or pruning.

It's like exercise. Example if you lift weights, the weights you lift would be increased each time you get comfortable in a level.

Understand, His plans for you isn't to harm you but to increase you higher, greatness comes at a cost with steady building. Why? So it can withstand the storms of life.

Remember, if you are going to build, He is your firm foundation, the light that guides your path for you to see clearly so you don't stumble and fall. However even if you fall He will lift you up.

There are days I feel too tired, don't want to get out of bed, don't want to listen to anyone's needs or face the world, you just want to hide.

I go to Him for He is my hiding place, I begin by telling Him my weakness and move in to worship, I ask for strength and thank Him for all the victories, then I'm reminded.

He is the Ancient One, the I Am That I Am, the God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the One who made me, clothes me, covered me, planted me, nurtured me, loved me when I didn't deserve, gave His only Son to die for me, and won the victory over our enemies.

Let's pray, Dear Lord, I thank you for your unfailing love, I receive you as my firm foundation and teacher. Do what only you can do in my life, in Jesus Name Amen.
